On the various lists of lost talkies posted on AMS and here, this 1936 Paramount title, with Herbert Marshall, Gertrude Michael and Robert Cummings, has always shown up. With all the recent talk about Freckles, I thought it might be an opportune time to ask whether anyone knows about a print of Forgotten Faces.
It was previously filmed twice: in 1920 as Heliotrope with Wilfred Lytell and Diana Allen for Cosmopolitan-Paramount and in 1928 with Clive Brook, Mary Brian, William Powell and Olga Baclanova for Paramount Famous Lasky. A subsequent version was A Gentleman After Dark with Brian Donlevy and Miriam Hopkins, produced by Edward Small and released by UA in 1942. Presumably the rights and possibly the prints/negatives of the three previous versions were sold to Small sometime before this point. If so, that could explain why the '36 Forgotten Faces slipped through the cracks. It doesn't appear to have been in the 1958 MCA package--I could find no 1960s TV listings for it in the Google archives, unlike many other little-known Paramounts of the time.
