Film Dope?

Post by Mike Gebert » Fri Jul 30, 2010 12:48 pm

No, not dope as in drugs, glue or dummies, but a British film magazine, or zine, called Film Dope.

Raymond Durgnat wrote a piece on Fedor Ozep (Miss Mend) in Film Dope #49 (1993). I'd love to find this and read it, somehow...

A magazine with a title that makes it a must-buy for everyone on this list.....

Google Books shows 2 editions (1991 and 1994) which I am sure you've seen the preview for. They've published over 50 of them. No linkage to help.

I can order a (digital) copy of the article through Interlibrary Loan and send it to you, Mike. Do you know the page number(s)?

~Roger

Edit: Just found the listing for this article, it's on pp. 43-44 of the issue. I'll submit a request for it.

I have a complete set of the late, lamented Film Dope. It was published 1972-1994 and was dedicated to providing meticulously researched filmographies of filmmakers, which it covered alphabetically. It got as far as entry no. 1304 (Christine Pascal), Film Dope no. 50, before petering out. The main people behind it were David Badder, Bob Baker and Markku Salmi.
