Vitaphone shorts at UCLA

Post by missdupont » Wed Aug 18, 2010 11:50 am

Vitaphone shorts will play 7:30 Saturday night at the Hammer Museum as part of the UCLA's Film and TV Archive screening series. Kenneth Turan wrote an interesting article about the shorts and Vitaphone in today's LA Times.

Played to a packed house (including Robert Downey Jr.) and had a blast.

Thanks Robert Gitt, UCLA and Ron Hutchinson!

Thanks Miss Dupont! Yes, the shows both at UCLA and Film Forum were real hits, and UCLA had SRO and had to turn away (unfortunately) over 75 people. Great to see this response for Vitaphone material. UCLA and myself thru FF are already planning multiple spring screenings. There are about 40 more recently restored 1926-30 Vitaphone shorts still to be screens, plus 7 1929-30 Columbia Victor Gem one reelers that LoC is restoring and which are using disks I acquired from Australia.

Also, sit tight and your DVD wished may soon come true.

Sam Warner is smiling down from Vitaphone heaven!

I want to repeat how entertaining this show was. The Project has got to get the Jimmy Conlin short on DVD -- seeing it completely changed how I will look at his work with Preston Sturges.

Here's a still from that terrific short. Hope I did this right. How do I actually post this as a pic right on the Board without a link?

Yfrog doesn't make it easy to post something to a message board. If you hover your mouse over the "Twitter" button, it will show you the actual URL of your photo...
