Chaplin at Keystone from BFI

Post by Doug Sulpy » Wed Dec 22, 2010 9:03 am

I can confirm the mastering error on "Twenty Minutes of Love," where the film abruptly stops at 5:20 and returns to the menu.

I e-mailed Bryony Dixon, and she asked me to let you know there's a work-around - simply choose "Play All" from the menu, and skip ahead until you get to "Twenty Minutes of Love" - the film will play straight through.

I ordered the BFI set last week and was promised it by Jan. 7. Imagine my surprise when it turned up on my doorstep yesterday. I immediately played disc one, "Twenty Minutes of Love," and sure enough at about the five minute mark it cuts back to the menu. So I tried the "Play All" work-around and the film played fine as a result. An interesting sidelight was watching Henry "Pathe" Lehrman and recalling his checkered career. Quite a treasure trove!

This was driving me mad - thanks for posting the workaround. This little niggle aside, it is a lovely set and I'm very much looking forward to watching the whole thing in due course.
