Directors Guild of America - 75th Anniversary

Post by David Pierce » Tue Feb 22, 2011 8:38 am

The Directors Guild of America (DGA), the labor union for film and television directors and assistant directors, is celebrating its 75th anniversary.

The Winter 2011 DGA Quarterly magazine http://www.dgaquarterly.org/BACKISSUES/Winter2011.aspx has a number of articles about the history of the DGA, including one by David Thomson on King Vidor and an interview with USC professor Steven Ross that is a reminder that AMPAS was originally a company union for the studios.

The DGA is also experimenting with putting visual histories on-line, starting with Delbert Mann http://dga.org/delmann/mann.php Jud Taylor http://www.dga.org/judtaylor/taylor.php Arthur Penn http://www.dga.org/arthurpenn/ and Lamont Johnson http://www.dga.org/lamontjohnson/
