WB Archive Remaster/ Replacement Program

Post by Phillyrich » Tue May 31, 2011 9:07 pm

I was just contacted by WB Archive via email to see if I wanted to replace my copy of "Four Daughters" with a newly remastered version.
WB Archive promises to replace some disc titles with newly remastered versions for "minimal" cost. Replacement appears to be $4.99 plus shipping ($2.50), plus applicable sales tax.
I like the idea of upgrading to a newer version--but to me the cost is more than minimal, and I think WB should have thought harder when they put out a lot of older titles, mastered only to vhs video quality, for 20 bucks each. Who really wants to rebuy what they should have gotten right the first time?
Films like "Beast of the City" and Jolson's "Go Into Your Dance" really cry out for a better remastering job. :(

I don't think seven bucks is that unreasonable. But on the other hand, I agree that they should have put the better version out in the first place. Replacing the older version for just shipping plus tax would have been a much better PR move.

It's one thing if additional footage is discovered (METROPOLIS), better elements are found (CITIZEN KANE), a restoration is done (the Sherlock Holmes series or A STAR IS BORN), or a title is reissued on higher-resolution media (VHS vs. DVD vs. Blu-ray vs. ???).

But just saying "we did a crummy job of transferring the title" doesn't cut it in my book! SETH
Please don't call the occasional theatrical release of an old movie a "reissue." We do not say "The next time you go to the Louvre, you will see a re-issue of the Mona Lisa.” -- Cecil B. DeMille

Hi is it possible to get a list of the "VHS" quality Warner Archives.

I own the original Warner Archives [old artwork] DVD's of "Urgh!" and "Our Gang Collection", they look very nice and most importantly they were not molested by applying nasty DNR and EE.
