From TCM:
"Beginning today, Robert Osborne plans to take a short break from his hosting duties for minor surgery, followed by a vacation. He plans to return to the network in three months and will also attend the first TCM Classic Cruise in December. Many of his hosting duties will be handled on a temporary basis by a number of special guests and friends of the network."

As is standard for many celebrities in Hollywood and environs, Osborne wants to keep his medical condition confidential. For the one week a month he works on his comments bookending TCM movies, he has to be in good shape. Eventually, after the surgery, news of what was ailing Osborne will come out.
