Robert Osborne Update

Post by ColemanShedman » Mon Jul 11, 2011 11:11 am

From TCM:

"Beginning today, Robert Osborne plans to take a short break from his hosting duties for minor surgery, followed by a vacation. He plans to return to the network in three months and will also attend the first TCM Classic Cruise in December. Many of his hosting duties will be handled on a temporary basis by a number of special guests and friends of the network."

Well, I'd like to see Brownlow as one the special guest hosts.

And I'd like to see Bob back in good health. Despite the occasional fluffs, as mentioned elsewhere, he's done yeoman's work on behalf of classic film.

Come to think of it, a pleasant thirty years' retirement is a worthwhile thing, too.

God bless Mr. Osborne -- would that he could host TCM forever.

:o This was completely unexpected. Although it was clear that he had been struggling with his health for the past several months of intros.Hopefully, everything turns out well for him and he makes a full recovery. I wonder if Bill Irwin will return to host Silent Sunday Nights. Irwin used to be the host of the program up until about 1999.

As is standard for many celebrities in Hollywood and environs, Osborne wants to keep his medical condition confidential. For the one week a month he works on his comments bookending TCM movies, he has to be in good shape. Eventually, after the surgery, news of what was ailing Osborne will come out.
---
Once a month, Osborne flies to Atlanta from Los Angeles and videotapes 120 "intro's and outro's" to be shown on TCM in the month ahead. That's 20 or 30 tapings a day, he says. "I had to learn how to rein myself in," he says, "so I could talk for five days straight."
