The Silent Movie Calendar's July Bathing Beauties

Post by Frederica » Tue Jul 12, 2011 3:26 pm

Mack Swain, Polly Moran, and Harry Depp in drag. So is Harry Depp prettier than Polly Moran, or is that just me? Because he's really kinda cute in that ensemble.

I've been contemplating that question for two weeks now. He's got great shoes (Depp, not Swain)

I agree with you, greta - I think Depp's whole outfit is lovely, especially the shoes. Hmmm. . .maybe I've found this year's Halloween costume.

I spotted the shoes, too. The hat isn't bad either. Altogether, he's a fetching little thing. Maybe there's some heretofore unknown rule about actors named Depp and drag.

That's Mack in the stripes--although I agree, he is quite stunning, especially with the matching pillbox hat completing the ensemble. Harry Depp is the love-muffin on the right, clasping her...er...his hands and gazing adoringly at Mack.

Wow, and check out Virginia's very advanced fashion sense this month--that looks like something one of the freshmen girls around here would be prancing around in. She'd have made a mint with those leggings.

I thought that myself when I first bought this still: "I think I wore that to a club once." It's kinda cute.

Rodney, did you have anything else in mind when you Marvel Rea and Virginia Rappe on the same page, other than the overly-complicated bathing attire? Because, wow. Irony much?

Yes, October's Virginia Rappe photo is certainly a good candidate for most striking outfit, pose, and facial expression on the whole 2011 calendar! I'm sure that it must be responsible for the odd and certainly unexpected dream I had last night featuring Virginia and Joan together (true story!). As for Rodney's pairing of the two October photos, I'm sure a large part had to do with the vertical compositions letting two pictures fit on the same page.

??? Can you tell, or is it one of those dreams that shouldn't be discussed in a family-friendly forum?

I'm afraid it wasn't one of "those" dreams (darn!), at least not what I can remember of it, as like so many surviving silent films it was little more than a fragment in which I vaguely recall (it seems like a dream!) that you were just helping her with her costume or some such thing, no doubt suggested from the photo caption -- at least that's pretty much all I can remember of it. And there might have been a bench involved, similar to that in the May photo. Also, it may or may not have all been in black and white (I once had a pretty vivid black and white dream of Claudette Colbert as Cleopatra). Black and white dreams are always fun, but relatively rare.

Miss Rappe should never have gone out in such a skimpy outfit. Didn't she know how easy it is to catch a nasty urinary tract infection?

You'd think she would, since she caught one every five minutes.
