San Francisco Chronicle: The return of Baby Peggy

Post by thomas_gladysz » Tue Aug 02, 2011 10:28 pm

I authored an article about Diana Serra Cary / Baby Peggy on the San Francisco Chronicle website. "The return of Baby Peggy" can be found at http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/tgl ... y_id=94363

The piece was occasioned by Diana Cary's upcoming appearance at the San Francisco Public Library on Sunday, August 7th at 2 pm. "An Afternoon with Silent Film Star 'Baby Peggy" will feature a Baby Peggy short film (courtesy of the actress), an on-stage conversation, and book signing. A little more info about the event can be found on the SFPL website at http://sfpl.org/index.php?pg=1007316001 and on its Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=188046987923765

We are expecting a good crowd. The SFPL Koret Auitorium holds about 150 people. By the way: be sure and check out the San Francisco Public Library homepage which features a lovely image of Baby Peggy front and center - http://sfpl.org/index.php?pg=0400000001#

If you plan on attending, be sure and check out the various silent film related exhibits on display around the library. More info on these at http://sfpl.org/index.php?pg=1006779101 The exhibits run through August 28.

On Sunday, August 7th at 1 pm (the same day as the Baby Peggy event) there will be a 30 minute informal guided tour of one of the exhibits, "Reading the Stars," with exhibit organizers Thomas Gladysz, Christy Pascoe and Donna Hill. More info at http://events.sfgate.com/san-francisco- ... rs-exhibit "Reading the Stars" features rare vintage books relating to such silent films stars as Rudolph Valentino, Douglas Fairbanks, Louise Brooks, Buster Keaton, Mary Pickford, Eric von Stroheim, William S. Hart, Sessue Hayakawa and Baby Peggy.
